Existence is a short composition written for the Gaza section of Siska Lappi-Takala’s short film Good, Bad & Ugly. It accompanies choreography that explores life, survival, and the search for space amid violence and environmental destruction.
A sparse, pulse-like drum and rattling percussion form a rhythmic undercurrent, while two simultaneous violin layers run throughout the piece: one percussive and tactile, the other a sustained drone. A high, woodwind-like vocal line—sung mostly with the mouth closed—shifts from a narrative quality toward something closer to a cry, at times breaking outward, at times turned inward and suppressed. The music moves between tension, restraint, and persistence, building a ritual-like sound world around the fragile act of remaining alive under profound threat.

Touching the Unseen

Touching the Unseen is a composition created for the “Good” section of Siska Lappi-Takala’s short film Good, Bad & Ugly. The piece grew out of an encounter with a person who communicates through touch rather than sight, sound, or speech. The composition translates this form of communication into a song-like, minor-key sound world, exploring ways to communicate beyond conventional sensory channels.
Rustling, tactile sounds form an underlying texture, interwoven with melodies and accompanying tones that gradually blend into and extend one another. Rather than remaining distinct, the sounds flow into a continuously shifting sonic texture, evoking a synesthetic, tactile mode of listening—inviting the listener to experience sound almost as a form of touch.

The film was screened at the Tokyo Lift-Off Film Festival, and was named a semifinalist at the Stockholm Short Festival.

Compositions for Siska Lappi-Takala’s video work Life as an Ice Butterfly – justification of existence. Life as an Ice Butterfly is a poetic reflection on the fragile balance between humanity and nature — a balance now threatened by climate change, melting ice, and the silent disappearance of clean water.
Through compassion, impermanence, and reverence for the natural world, the work evokes a world where nature holds the final word, and our existence is but a breath within its greater rhythm.

Élevé’s soundscape is constructed from processed human voices, violins, and low, continuous hums extracted from field recordings. The work begins in near silence, allowing small details such as breathing, resonance, and texture to gradually emerge.
As the choreography remains restrained and almost still, the music creates a quiet yet tense atmosphere—one of suspension, balance, and subtle reaching. Layers of soft noise and elongated tones form a static sonic field that never fully settles, gently shifting its weight like a body finding equilibrium.
The result is a delicate, spacious sound world that supports the work’s minimal movement and amplifies its sense of quiet attention and stillness.
